Paul Norton
Paul brings over 50 years of skating experience to the Find Your Groove freestyle dance skate workshop. His love for skating began in 1973 when he strapped a pair of metal-wheel skates to his shoes, tightened them with a skate key, and was instantly hooked. He soon upgraded to rink skates, modifying them with skateboard parts to make his own outdoor setup.
Growing up in Syracuse, NY, Paul explored the city on his DIY skates, eventually skating daily to Syracuse University. In 1984, he moved to Boulder, Colorado, where he hit the bike paths on a new set of Kryptonic wheels—made locally, just off the trail. He spent two years rollerskating as a waiter at the Last American Diner in Boulder and enjoyed weekend group skates up and down Vail Pass.
Eventually, Paul became a regular at adult skate nights in Denver rinks, where his passion for freestyle dance skating made him a favorite skater to watch. His smooth style and creative moves continue to inspire skaters of all levels.
Outside the rink, Paul holds both BS and MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering and spent 40 years working with the U.S. Department of Energy at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
